The Ruru (also Morepork) is a smallish, brown owl found in New Zealand, and to the northwest, on Norfolk Island. It primarily inhabits forests up to the alpine tree line. They are usually seen singly, in pairs, or in small family groups of an adult pair and up to three young.
Although mainly nocturnal, they are sometimes active at dawn and dusk. The main hunting times are evenings and mornings, with brief bursts of activity through the night. On dark nights, they often perch through the middle hours, and particularly if the weather is bad, may hunt by daylight, instead.
This art piece is made specially for your garden. It will not rust and will maintain its awesome look in all weathers for a very long time

The Ruru, or morepork, is Aotearoa’s native owl — mysterious, watchful, and often heard before it’s seen. With its soft, haunting “more-pork” call echoing through the night, this small brown owl brings a magical stillness to forests from the lowlands to the alpine treeline. While mostly nocturnal, Ruru are sometimes active at dawn or dusk and may even hunt in daylight when the weather turns.
Usually spotted alone or in family groups, these quiet guardians of the bush hold a special place in our hearts.
This handcrafted garden art captures the gentle, alert presence of the Ruru. Designed to withstand all weather conditions, it won’t rust and will retain its striking good looks season after season.
Two versions are available — adult and baby — and when displayed together, they create a truly heartwarming scene.
